Adobe Hidden Treasures was a design challenge issued by Adobe to celebrate 100 years of Bauhaus Dessau design. Adobe did not reach out to me or hire me for this project. About the challenge: “Use the newly released Bauhaus Dessau fonts to build the elements of a brand identity: Logo, poster, business card, homepage, and Behance project. The grand prize winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Dessau, Germany to visit the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and UNESCO World Heritage site” – Adobe.

Adobe Inc. is a U.S. computer software company known for Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat/Reader, and Adobe Creative Cloud (previously known as Adobe Creative Suite). The Adobe Creative Cloud is what Duvio Studio uses as its primary software for creating work.

The Adobe Hidden Treasures challenge was a design challenge in which anyone could participate in. This challenge required each participant to build a brand identity using five of the newly released Bauhaus Dessau fonts. The five fonts are Joschmi, Xants, CarlMarx, Alfarn, and Reross, all of which can be found in the Adobe Fonts library.

The Discovery phase began with taking a deep dive into the five freshly launched fonts and the history of Bauhaus Dessau. The minimum design challenge requirements were to create a logo, a poster, a business card, and a website homepage. With these elements and other assets of my choosing, I had to create a brand identity that would be published as a Behance project.

The AHT challenge required the use of at least one of the Bauhaus Dessau fonts. With a careful understanding of the rules and with the knowledge gathered on the history of Bauhaus Dessau, I was ready to jump right into the creation process.

For this project, I went straight to work on the computer and started playing around with the Bauhaus Dessau fonts. The AHT challenge could be a brand identity on anything. For example, it could be a brand about yogurt or clothing. Therefore, I decided to create an identity focused on Bauhaus Dessau. I created three logos using the restored fonts, as seen below.

Creation Process

For this project, I went straight to work on the computer and started playing around with the Bauhaus Dessau fonts. The AHT challenge could be a brand identity on anything. For example, it could be a brand about yogurt or clothing. Therefore, I decided to create an identity focused on Bauhaus Dessau. I created three logos using the restored fonts, as seen below.

Of the three logos produced, I chose the “AHT #adobehiddentreasures” logo for the brand identity. The Joschmi typeface was used to create the “AHT” design, while the below hashtag uses the Xants typeface. Since “AHT” stands for Adobe Hidden Treasures, I wanted to create a logo that played off those words (especially the word “Hidden”). I was able to mold the letters together seamlessly using the Joschmi typeface.

Each letter is somewhat hidden within one another, which creates a nice flow between each character. When you see the colored version of the logo you’ll notice that the letter “A” is partially hidden behind the letter “H” and the letter “H” is partially hidden behind the letter “T”. In the below slideshow, you’ll notice the breakup of each letter in the logo.

After deciding on a logo, I began designing elements for the overall brand identity. The logo is a tribute to Adobe’s restored fonts. Therefore, I found it very important to use all of the AHT typefaces within the brand identity.

I created a logo and brand identity that I believe captures the essence of AHT. Even more, it celebrates the 100 years of the greatly influential Bauhaus Dessau design. Aside from the logo, I crafted a business card, letterhead, envelope, poster, and website homepage. All these elements make up the whole brand identity and wrapped up the AHT challenge.

As mentioned before, I included all five of the AHT typefaces. I also settled on primary colors for the color palette because it evokes a sense of playfulness, friendliness, and familiarity. It was an honor and pleasure to participate in the AHT challenge. Furthermore, the Bauhaus design has been a motivational and significant part of my design career.
